The traditional ceremony to perform when ‘uzalwe umbethe’

Let us look at the various types of, ‘ukuzalwa Wembethe’Ukuzalwa ungqwambili; with the umbilical cord wrapped around your neck or body. See pic 3. This baby is definitely going to be a Traditional Healer, most likely a Sangoma. You may have seen in pictures, Sangoma initiates wearing coats skin around their chects. It resembles ‘ukuzalwa ungqwambile’. This means with the umbilical cord around their bodies when they were born.

2. Ukuzalwa nengubo; being born in an amniotic sack or the sack has burst and it now covers the babies body. See pics 1 and 2. This can also mean ‘ukuzalwa nenhlanhla’, meaning you are going to be very gifted and lucky.

3. Being born ‘newele’, with a twin. These can also be represented in pic 1 . This is called the disappearing twin syndrom. When you are both still embryos, the other twin(s) do not form into human babies. they will cover you and you will be born with something that looks like a cloth on you face or body.

4. The other two types is when you are born with gifts. We see thesa with actors, authors, musicians, entrepreneurs. People who succeed exceedingly in their fields and sometimes with very little obstacles. This is because they were born stars, born winners.

5. The last one is when a baby is a born a reincarnation of someone in the family who had passed on. This could be a Gogo or Mkhulu. In this case the baby needs to be named accordingly. These babies are very sickly and can easily die or become very troublesome and destructive. If the ritual is not followed early enough.
